FileFinder is a CD/DVD/disk catalog application.

It provides an easy to use interface which is pretty intuitive. You can add new catalogs very easily, either by using the dedicated 'Add' button, or the batch adding mode. You can use the 'Add' button more than just once. The program queues the adding actions. It's doing them one by one.

The interface is split between the catalogs list, and an area where you can see the contained files. FileFinder provides a powerful search engine which you can use for the selected catalogs, or for all the entries. You can also use the previous results. The whole search action is quite fast.

I tried to catalog as many files as I could. I used the Mac OS X install DVDs, the Windows XP Professional install CD, and the local items such as the root partition, the Windows partition, the network server list, and the network itself. Even though the resulted file list was huge, the performance of this application was quite good.

I also tried to add a local network location such as a mounted Windows share directory via the built in SAMBA support. The process failed with an error. However, I could add FTP/SFTP hosts which were mounted with MacFusion as local drives.

Pluses: it allows you to catalog almost anything, it has a powerful search engine.

Drawbacks / flaws: it can't catalog Windows shares.

In conclusion: even though Mac OS X has Spotlight, you can't find every file that you own. In this case, FileFinder is your little helper which makes this possible.
